TERM 5
This half term, Year 3 and 4 pupils will develop their curiosity, creativity and confidence through a range of exciting cross-curricular learning opportunities.
In English, History and Reading, children will explore stories, historical events and rich texts that inspire imagination and discussion. Using Flotsam and Skygazing, pupils will develop their descriptive writing, paragraph organisation and reading comprehension skills. In History, children will learn about the Norman Conquest, including the Battle of Hastings, Norman castles and life under the feudal system, helping them understand how Britain changed after 1066.
Maths and Computing lessons will focus on developing reasoning and problem-solving skills. Pupils will learn about area, perimeter, fractions, mass and capacity while building confidence using mathematical vocabulary and methods. In Computing, children will learn how search engines work, how to safely find reliable information online and how to identify fake news and trustworthy digital content.
Science and DT learning will link through investigations into sound and electrical systems. In Science, pupils will explore how sound is made, how vibrations travel and how pitch and volume can change. In DT, children will design and create illuminated signs using circuits, LEDs and computer-controlled lighting, combining creativity with practical problem-solving skills.
Across PSHE, RE and Languages, pupils will think about relationships, communication and understanding different beliefs and cultures. PSHE lessons will focus on friendships, managing emotions and showing appreciation to others. In RE, children will explore the role of food in different religions and festivals, while French lessons will help pupils talk about their town, address and everyday vocabulary with increasing confidence.
In PE and Music, children will continue developing teamwork, coordination and performance skills. Athletics and Tennis lessons will focus on control, movement and collaboration, while Music lessons inspired by The Beatles will encourage pupils to sing, listen, perform and explore different musical styles.
Throughout the half term, children will also enjoy enrichment opportunities including a farm visit, practical investigations, creative design projects and collaborative performances that help bring their learning to life.
