Foxes - Year 4 Class

Foxes Class teacher is Miss Wackrill. Miss Wackrill thoroughly enjoys teaching maths and history. In her spare time, she loves reading and spending time with her friends and family (which consists of 5 sisters and 1 brother)! The support staff member is Mr Morgan. Mr Morgan loves watching football, reading and listening to music.

On Friday afternoons, Miss Wackrill has her Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA) and this is taught by Mrs Saiyai.

• Please encourage your child to read, read and read! Please write in your child’s diary when they have read at home and remind them to bring in their diary every day to be checked by an adult.
• Please ensure your child has a water bottle with them every day.
• Please ensure your child is wearing full school uniform or PE kit if a PE day (check timetable).

This half term, Foxes Class will be engaging in an exciting and diverse range of topics across all subjects! In English, we will be reading Until I Met Dudley by Roger McGough, exploring its themes and characters. Through this, we will develop our writing skills, focusing on narrative writing, descriptive language, and character development. During guided reading, we will continue to dive into The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. This story of a robot stranded on a remote island will spark our imagination and discussions on survival, nature, and technology. In maths, we will continue our exploration of multiplication and division, strengthening our understanding of times tables, long division, and solving word problems. Our science topic will focus on Living Things and Their Habitats, where we will learn about different environments and the creatures that live in them, studying their life cycles and how they adapt to their surroundings.

In history, we will be traveling back to the Wild West, discovering life during the pioneering days, including the famous figures, events, and the impact of westward expansion in America. In PE, we will be practicing Gymnastics, focusing on improving balance, coordination, and creating routines that incorporate different movements and sequences. In art, our creativity will shine through Plant Art, where we will explore various techniques to create beautiful pieces inspired by nature, using plants and natural materials as our canvas. In RE, we will study Sikh Rites of Passage, learning about key events in a Sikh’s life and understanding the spiritual and cultural significance of rituals and ceremonies. Our PSHE lessons will focus on Hopes and Goals, helping us set personal targets, reflect on achievements, and think about how to overcome challenges and work together as a class. In computing, we will be learning about 3D Design and Data Handling, developing our skills to design digital objects and analyse data using simple software tools.

We’re looking forward to an enriching and fun-filled half term of learning!

Medium TERM PLAN

I encourage the children to read as much as possible at home. I would hope they read a minimum of 3 times a week. If they read 3 times in 1 week, they get to put a star in the jar on Friday and get a round of applause in Foxes Classroom. I encourage your children to read their school reading book because it is appropriate for their reading level. However, I can understand sometimes they would like to enjoy another book, and therefore, they have all been given logins to access some online reading books via the oxford owl website. I also appreciate that your child may have books at home they want to read.

YEAR 4's STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS

YEAR 4 READING SPINE

Each week on a Friday, your child will receive 10 spellings they have to learn ready for their next spelling test on the following Friday. Alongside spellings, your child will receive a piece of Mathematics and English home learning. This is also due in on the following Friday.

Over holiday breaks, your child will receive a creative home learning project, normally this is linked to our next topic that we will be exploring when the children return.

www.timestables.co.uk – this is a great website to practice your child’s times tables knowledge. It also allows your child to do practice runs of the timed, statutory times tables test that they will have to undertake in June.

www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button– this is a great website for your child to practise their arithmetic knowledge such as number bonds, times tables, doubling and halving, multiples, division facts and square numbers.

https://ttrockstars.com/ - this is a great and fun website that the school has subscribed to, to support your child’s times table knowledge. They get to have their own avatar and earn points based on their learning and development.

www.oxfordowl.co.uk – this is a great online library where your child can access virtual reading books. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need your child’s log in reprinted.
