This half term, Year 1 and 2 pupils will develop their curiosity, creativity and confidence through a range of engaging and hands-on learning opportunities.
In English and Reading, children will explore imaginative and meaningful texts that support early writing and comprehension skills. Using Tadpole’s Promise and Toys in Space, pupils will practise writing simple explanations, descriptions and short narratives. They will focus on using capital letters, full stops, conjunctions and developing vocabulary, while building confidence in sequencing events and expressing their ideas clearly.
In Maths and Computing, pupils will build foundational reasoning and problem-solving skills. In Maths, they will learn about time, including days of the week and telling the time, alongside developing their understanding of fractions such as halves, quarters and thirds.
In Computing, children will begin to understand coding by programming simple movements, exploring inputs and outputs, and learning how to spot and fix errors in programs.
Science and the wider curriculum will focus on exploring the natural world. In Science, pupils will learn about living things and their habitats, including identifying plants and animals in microhabitats and understanding simple food chains.
In Geography and History, children will explore seaside holidays, comparing how holidays have changed over time and identifying similarities and differences between the past and present.
Across PSHE, RE and Art, pupils will develop their understanding of relationships, beliefs and creativity. In PSHE, lessons will focus on friendships, trust, managing conflict and showing appreciation to others.
In RE, children will learn about Buddhism and the life of the Buddha, including how and why key events are celebrated. In Art, pupils will be inspired by the artist Henri Rousseau, exploring his style and creating their own imaginative artwork.
In PE and Music, children will continue to develop coordination, teamwork and performance skills. PE lessons will include Athletics and Tennis, focusing on movement, control and cooperation.
In Music, pupils will enjoy singing and performing, developing their understanding of rhythm, pitch and musical expression through engaging songs.
Throughout the half term, children will take part in a range of enrichment opportunities, including outdoor learning such as woodland walks and practical activities like planting, helping to bring their learning to life.
