Information for New Reception Children September 2020 - Letter sent 14th July 2020

14th July 2020

Good morning,

We hope you are all well and enjoying a little more sun this week!

We have been working hard at school to try and create some videos to share with your child on what our school is like and how things will be when they start in Owls Class in September.  Here are two videos to share; we hope your child enjoys seeing the staff and getting a feel for their new class.

In the packs you took home when you came to meet the teacher on 1st July (or the ones posted home) there was a slip which gave you the password for our online learning page on the school website. On here you will find a transition project Ms Hayward has created. We’re not sure if this has been missed or not as Ms Hayward hasn’t received any emails or photos for this yet. In case this was missed somehow, please do have a look. The login is: w.user and the password is : Woodyphomework2020/ (please do not reset the password as this is shared by ALL pupils).

Our school website is https://www.woodlandsparkschool.co.uk/ once on the home page, click on Children ~ Home learning  (scroll down) and click on ‘Reception starters September 2020’. There are three challenges listed which were suggested by Ms Hayward, some useful information and links and a selection of stories read by Ms Hayward too. If you do complete any of the challenges, or have any questions, you can email Ms Hayward directly on owls@woodlandsparkschool.org  I know she would love to hear from you.

Thank you to those of you who have called and confirmed your 1:1 induction meetings in September, they are a really important opportunity for us to get to know your child and we hope you will all like to attend. We still have many slots unconfirmed, so please do let us know if you wish to come to your meeting by Wednesday 15th or unconfirmed slots will be released to other parents.

We also have a school Facebook page for parents/carers which we use to share information and important events etc. It is also a platform for parent reminders and some families ask questions on there too. If you wish to join, please find us by searching ‘Woodlands Park Primary and Nursery School Parent Information Group’ and answer the questions. You may enjoy watching the videos on there and it will give you a good feel for our school community.

Since receiving the new guidance for re-opening in September, discussion amongst the Early Years team and trying to arrange our staggered start and finish times for September, we have updated the calendar that we sent you. You will see that we have brought everything forward a little in the hope to help with childcare as we realise many families will be back to working in September.  We want to ensure the children have a clear transition which builds up across the days, so they feel happy and comfortable before attending full days. The children will now all have one settling in visit for 3hrs, do two mornings with lunch and then start full time.  Please note if you feel your child will need a longer transition or that you would like part time for longer, please ring the school to discuss this and we will be happy to create a plan for your individual child.

Although the Early years will be one bubble, we cannot have them all arriving at the same time, as there isn’t enough space for both classes to wash their hands at the same time when they arrive each morning and therefore we have had to stagger it. On a normal day when full time schooling has started, Reception’s hours will be 8:30-3:05pm. This will be the case until we receive any new guidance on the bubble system.

Can you please ensure that any forms included in the packs you received on the 1st July (or posted home) are returned to Mrs Morgan in the School Office before the end of term to allow the information to be processed.

There is a lot of new information in this email, so please do email or call with any questions you may have. We hope you enjoy the videos J

Kind regards,

Mrs Butcher

Early Years Leader
