Welcome to Woodlands Park Primary & Nursery School

Welcome to our school website. We hope you find it interesting and informative.

Welcome

Welcome to Woodlands Park Primary School!
Our Vision:  A place for everyone. Together, we are inspired to grow, learn and achieve.

From the Headteacher, Mrs Penny:

Welcome to the Woodlands Park School Website. I hope that you find it informative and interesting.

We are a small community school situated in the heart of Woodlands Park Village.  Our school day runs from 8.40-3.15 for Key Stage One and Two. The Nursery runs from 8.40 until 11.45 with a lunch club until 1pm. There is a Breakfast Club from 8am onwards and various after school clubs which change on a regular basis.  The after school clubs generally run until 4.30pm and this year consist of art, football, dance, creativity, singing and environment.
Please enjoy exploring the pages of our website to find out more about our school, the environment, the curriculum, our achievements, activities and events. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always pleased to welcome and show visitors around.  You do not need to wait until an open day.

We Are Special!

At Woodlands Park we believe that we are special! Not only do we have our own swimming pool which means all our pupils can have quality swimming lessons during the Summer and sometimes Autumn term but we have extensive, beautiful grounds which are used as a rich learning environment. Science lessons often take place outside in our wild woodland area or pond. We have lovely areas which are wonderful for exploring and hiding. Stories take on new meanings when they are read to the children in the woods, or sitting under the shade of a tree. All the staff have completed training in how to enhance and enrich children's learning experiences, regardless of their age, stage or ability,  using the outdoor environment and we ensure that this is a part of the everyday curriculum.  Maths, science, art, geography and PE often take place using the school grounds and the surrounding countryside.

We also believe that it is really important that we all understand where our food comes from and how to grow and cook our own meals.  We plant, grow, harvest and cook our own fruit and vegetables. Also our resident chickens keep us supplied with eggs. We also employ our own cook, Mrs Copeland.  All our meals are cooked fresh each day and children can choose on a day to day basis what they would like for lunch. We offer a choice of three meals a day, including a vegetarian option. The school kitchen has been awarded the Five Star Food Award.  The school has also been awarded the Bronze Food For Life award for commitment to using locally sourced, fresh ingredients as much as possible and providing an enjoyable experience at lunchtimes.

We had an Ofsted Inspection in November 2017 which confirmed that 'Woodlands Park is a Good School'. Here are just a few highlights from the report. Please see Key Information section of this webiste to read the full report.

"Your staff work well as a team. They are enthusiastic and determined to help pupils achieve well. Together with the rest of your senior leadership team, you have focused, quite rightly, on improving the quality and consistency of teaching so that pupils make good progress in their learning."

"I enjoyed talking to your pupils. They spoke confidently about their work and how much they like school. One pupil said that the school feels like a big family. You make sure that newly arrived pupils settle in well. Pupils respect their teachers and feel safe and valued."

"Staff value and care for pupils. They know each pupil well and are prompt in reporting any concerns. School

leaders go to great lengths to ensure that absent pupils are safe. Several parents reported that the school looks after their children well."

"Historical information shows an improving picture for pupils’ achievement in the early years and key stage 1."

"you have maintained a clear focus on continuing to improve provision and outcomes for [Key Stage Two] pupils in these subjects" [English and Maths].

Take a look in the gallery for some pictures of the great things we get up to at Woodlands Park. Once again, we warmly welcome visits to our school so don't take our word for it.... come and see us in action.
